Community Work

Community Projects

Many of the communities surrounding Sihanoukville are rapidly expanding and lack the necessary infrastructure to provide clean water to the families living there. These populations lack not only fresh drinking water but also adequate drainage and sewage systems to remove waste water. These communities often suffer from endemic typhoid and dengue fever as a result of stagnant water close to homes and businesses.

In order to try to improve the situation in these local villages, Starfish has been helping to build wells so families can access fresh water. We have also been implementing small projects, such as building drainage systems, community toilets, and organizing community clean-ups. In smaller communities we distribute Red Cross clean-water kits. For every well we build, anywhere from 30-70 families gain access to clean drinking water—up to 420 people per well.
